Default Guild Wars playing experience

Hi,

I am very interested in Guild Wars and I am just wondering what are the opinions on the game itself in terms of game play, levelling time and enjoyment. I am currently playing WoW and am bored out of my mind (being level 60 and the next content patch being probably million years away) and have been waiting eagerly for Guild Wars since last year when they had a weekend open session. I seriously hope that Guild Wars are way above of WoW in terms of quests, game play and not to mention the customer service that is given. I would very much enjoy any comments that you have about Guild Wars.

Thanks.

-- I posted this in the wrong forum I guess so I've just make another post here. Sorry about that. =)

welll i havent seen anyother post like this so ill just answer your question here ive never played WoW, but GW is amazing, you dont have to spend alot of time lvling up because the lvl cap is 20, witch seems like a bad thing at first but its not, trust me. i dont know about WoW quests but GW quests are great, most of them are cooperative, and if you cant find people to go (witch prob wont happen) than you can use hanchis. well if you allready knew all that sorry but i gave it to you anyway

What's Hanchiis? To tell you the truth, I didn't really play much during the preview event (was drooling over the landscape too much) and as such, I am pretty much a stranger to most part of the game.

Level 20 seems like a pretty low cap considering that WoW got a lvl 60 level cap and even with all those levels, it is very easy to get to lvl 60 and that I am already bored of being level 60.

I am very interested in this game and can't wait to get my hand on it (Beta weekend is out for me as I can't preorder the game as I am in Aus and won't be able to get my hand on the preorder kit even if I want) and as such, I would like to know as much details as possible about the game. Very sorry if I am asking for too much but I am just so enthusiastic about this game.

By Hanchis Whosa meant Henchmen who are NPCs you can recruit to join your party if you can't find enough players to fill your party.

To answer some of your questoins here are some quotes from the GW FAQs.

Quote:
What kind of game is Guild Wars?

Guild Wars is a competitive online role-playing game. Players can engage in cooperative group combat, in single player adventures, or in large head-to-head guild battles. Guild Wars is a mission-based game set in a stunning 3D fantasy world that offers full, integrated support for guilds. Because the team that is developing Guild Wars has had experience creating successful online game series such as Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo, the members are familiar with the complex issues surrounding online games, and are creating a game that's both easy to learn and compelling to play long term, and yet doesn???t require players to spend hundreds of hours slogging through the preparation just to get to the fun bits.

Is Guild Wars an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)?

Guild Wars has some similarities to existing MMORPGs, but it also has some key differences.
Like existing MMOs, Guild Wars is played entirely online in a secure hosted environment. Thousands of players inhabit the same virtual world. Players can meet new friends in gathering places like towns and outposts where they form parties and go questing with them. Unlike many MMOs, when players form a party and embark upon a quest in Guild Wars, they get their own private copy of the area where the quest takes place. This design eliminates some of the frustrating gameplay elements commonly associated with MMOs, such as spawn camping, kill stealing, and lines to complete a quest.

Guild Wars takes place in a large virtual world made up of many different zones, and players can walk from one end of the world to the other. But Guild Wars eliminates much of the tedium of traveling through the world. Players can instantly return to any safe area (town or outpost) that they've previously visited just by clicking on it in the world overview map.

Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game). Guild Wars was designed from the ground up to create the best possible competitive role-playing experience. Success in Guild Wars is always the result of player skill, not time spent playing or the size of one's guild. As characters progress, they acquire a diverse set of skills and items, enabling them to use new strategies in combat. Players can do battle in open arenas or compete in guild-on-guild warfare or the international tournament. But engaging in combat is always the player's choice; there is no player-killing in cooperative areas of the world.

Finally, unlike existing MMOs, all characters in Guild Wars inhabit the same virtual world -- they are not divided onto different servers or shards -- so players can always team up with or compete against any other player in the world
.

Quote:
Are characters persistent?

Yes, your character will continue from mission to mission, acquiring levels, items, skills and abilities. In addition, every character is stored on ArenaNet's servers, so no matter whether you play single player adventures, cooperative missions, or head-to-head battles, your character will be stored in a secure environment allowing you to log in to play from anywhere in the world.

The difference between GW and WoW is GW is actually focuses a lot on level cap PvP. The majority of players in GW play as lvl 20s, and a large part of the game was meant to be played at lvl 20. The first 1-19 levels are almost a tutorial just to help the player get a feel for the game.

I get the impression that in WoW you have the reverse where most of the players are at the lower levels and you get fewer and fewer players as the level increases.

How about the skills? Is the skills very diverse like for example in WoW, for hunter I got something like close to 20+ kinda skills to use. I am not asking for that many skills but just the diversity of the skills and the usefulness of them in normal combact.

And once again sorry if I ask too many questions. =)

Your character has access to approximatly 150 skills but can only bring 8 into battle (skills are changable in all towns and outposts, but not in missions, explorable areas, or pvp arenas). Many people coming from traditional MMOs don't lkike this but I find the limit of 8 skills forces you to create interesting combos to make your build better.

...........lol

the good thing about GW is its more about skill than how much time you have to play, you have to stratagize, and plan ahead of time. its not one of those games where youll win everygame if you dont spend time making a good build and have a plan. i love that about this game

From what I have learned from the forum, it is freakin' awesome. The level cap isn't bad because, that time fro m1-20 is like, creating your base character. Then you get to go do a wholbuncha fun stuff!!! You get to do alot of quest/missions that progress you throught the story! This is liek an RPG now!!! yeah, it iwll totaly be awesome. I can't wait

P.S. I HAVE NEVER PLAYED!

Its like $5-10 dependeing on where you buy. Either way, its not too expensive, and you get two keys. One for you and one for a friend.

Exactly. I bought mine fo TEN dolalrs. But I don't mind. I got mine at CompUSA. It was the only place I saw it where it had a price. I am kinda upset that I could have bought it somewhere else for 5 dollars... Oh well.

If you want to pay cheaper, look for it for $5.00. If you really don't mind, go to like CompUSA or buy it where ever you see it first. HAHA! It really doesn't matter and I will say it again, either way, its not that much money.

Depending on where you by it is important. If you decide you want to specialize in a particular character, the unique launch weapon you receive depends on where you bought it.

The five unique items are:
Best Buy: Kanthan Targe
Electronics Boutique: Ithas Bow
GameStop: War Pick
CompUSA: Bone Idol
All others: Censor's Icon

yeah, it REALLY doesn't matter. I am gonna get the Bone Idol, because of where I purchased it, CompUSA. Which wil probably be ok for a mesmer right? LOL If all else faisl people will probably want to switch tehres and If the Icon one is what I need say a necro needs the bone idol and has the Icon I don't mind tradding at ALL. Oh, just FYI, for computer parts, BsetBuy is a fraud. LOL They're name is false advertising. I got a better buy on the new graphic card I got at CompUSA liek 2 stores down from BestBuy in the same shopping center. Pretty sad/awesome eh?
